Switzerland is a federal parliamentary republic. It is consisting with 26 cantons. The capital of Switzerland is Bern. The currency is the Swiss Franc. Switzerland officially uses 4 languages. They are German, Italian, French and Romansh. Switzerland is controlled by a federal republic government.

Switzerland has an area of 41,285 square kilometers and around 30,753 square kilometers can be considered as productive area. The current population is around 8 million. The largest city in Switzerland is Zurich.

There are many diverse landscapes in Switzerland. This country has divided into three geographic regions called Jura, Alps and Plateau. It has over 1,500 lakes including large lakes such as Geneva, Neuchâtel, and Constance. The water resources in Switzerland are used for different activities mainly for drinking, power generation, leisure activities, and for transportation. Around 31% Swiss lands are covered by forests. More than 90,000 jobs in the country depend on timber works.

Switzerland has completely different climates and landscapes from one region to another. It is truly a land of contrasts. Four seasons can be clearly defined in Switzerland.

Most of the people in Switzerland live in urban areas. Only one third of the population lives in cities like Geneva, Zurich, Bern, Basel and Lausanne.

Switzerland has a limited number of natural resources. Hence, it greatly depends on brain power. Therefore, the education system in Switzerland is strong. There are number of schools and universities in the country that are worldwide well known.
